Pay every adult an Unconditional Basic Income of £11,375 a year. The Government Petition.

BIG Campaign Poster2 copy

Were not really BIG on petitions, but seeing as the next UK General Election is not for another 2 years, we thought we’d give any impatient voters the chance to get it debated in this years parliament.

We’ve set up this E Petition and if it gets 100,000 signatures by 14 October 2014

Any individual earning less than £29,000 and any couple earning less than £60,000 will be financially better off and every adult will recieve this fully costed out unconditional basic income of £11,375 a year, regardless of whether they are working in other paid work, nor working or retired.

The Swiss did the sane thing. They raised 100,000 signatures and next year there will now be a referendum to decide whether to pay every Swiss adult an unconditional basic income of €2,800 a month.

There is also a European Citizens Initiative that need to raise 1 million signatures to debate getting the unconditional basic income to be a new human right by the European Parliament.

The title of our UK petition is “Pay every adult an Unconditional Basic Income of £11,375 a year.”

Responsible department: Department for Work and Pensions

How we propose to fund this unconditional basic income. The fully costed figures.

Scrap current welfare and pensions budget raises £6375 per UK adult.

Scrap the tax free personal allowance and raise income tax to 50% raises at least another £5000 per UK adult.

Then pay every UK adult a tax free unconditional basic income of £11375 a year instead and it also means anyone who takes additional paid work will always be better off, solving the “benefits trap” problem.

It is also possible to replace income tax with the land valuation tax while raising the same amount in tax revenue.
